Born in Glasgow Scotland and studied piano tuition at Dixon Street College of music at age 8, classical training.
Billy came to live in Sydney, 15 yrs. of age, studied with some other teachers, but owing to soccer, surfing etc. did not do much piano playing over the next few years. At age 19 he joined up with another two musicians and started doing some paid gigs. This is when Billy fortunately went to the late Roy Maling, to study chord structure. Over the following years he then played in many clubs and pubs throughout NSW.
This gave him the opportunity to play for numerous entertainers, being able to read music thanks to his basic classical training. Although playing mainly with bands, he also did solo work in piano bars, restaurants and cruise ships, the most well-known being the P&O Canberra and the Island Princess, one of the sister ships used for the television Love Boat series. Billy currently lives in Wollongong on the South Coast and continues to perform in musical gigs.
